Coaching and Mentoring Program

The development and implementation of a Coaching and Mentoring Program is two-fold:

PHASE ONE

LEADER AS COACH AND DEVELOPER OF PEOPLE  handseedps

Duration: 1 Day - 8 CPE Credits

This is a multimedia, multi-method workshop that focuses on the skill necessary to become an effective coach. The workshop pace will be balanced, not too fast and not too slow.  The activities will be highly participative and personalized for maximum learning.

  • The Role of the Leader as Coach
  • Servant Leadership Philosophy
  • Organizational and Personal Conditions Conducive to Growth
  • Managing Talent--- How to Attract and Keep Good People
  • The Pygmalion Effect in the Development of Others
  • Personality Plays a Part in the Coaching Process
  • The Transformational Power of Positive Relations
  • Principles and Practices for Developing Others
  • How to Coach for Success-- Learning Lab
  • The Coach as “Standard Keeper” and “Helping Hand”
  • Questions and Answers
  • Challenge and Charge

After completing the workshop, participants will:

  1. Know the importance of coaching others for organizational success.
  2. Understand the philosophy of servant leadership.
  3. Know the conditions conducive to personal and organizational growth.
  4. Understand the role of personality in the coaching process.
  5. Understand the power of positive relations and the Pygmalion effect in coaching others.
  6. Know how people learn and the principles for developing others.
  7. Develop the skills and attitudes necessary for successful coaching.
  8. Know how to attract and keep good people for company success.

 

PHASE TWO

THE ART OF LEADERSHIP- A MENTORING PROGRAM FOR EMERGING LEADERS  watering

Duration: 2 Days - 16 CPE Credits

This four part series focues on the human side of work.  Subjects will be made practical for use back  on-the-job including stretch assignments and coaching for success. It is recommended that both Coaches and Trainees attend together.

 

PART 1 -  BUILDING COMMUNITY IN THE WORKPLACE

Communication, teamwork, and a one-team attitude are needed for a high performance organization. The word community describes the character of today’s successful work environment. It implies purpose, spirit and human belonging. These are qualities that address basic needs of individuals and groups from the executive office to the shop floor.

Topics include:

  • Characteristics of True Community
  • Positive versus Negative Group Member Roles
  • Trust and Respect – Community Building Exercise
  • Understanding and Dealing with Different Types of People
  • Managing Conflict – 3 simple rules
  • Valuing Diversity as a Strength
  • Workshop/lab – Creating Communication, Teamwork and a 1-Team Attitude
  • On-The-Job-Application


Learning outcomes include:

  1. The ability to work collaboratively to accomplish goals.
  2. The ability to build and maintain productive relationships with employees and colleagues.
  3. The ability to respond to the needs of culturally diverse people.


PART  2 - HELPING PEOPLE THROUGH CHANGE

This program focusing on dealing with complex change. Organizational strategies and individual coping skills are needed to survive the volume and pace of change in today’s world of work. This program features the power of vision, the importance of attitude, and the key characteristics of the hardy personality.

Topics include:

  • The Power of Vision
  • Myths and Realities in Dealing with Change
  • Leading Change – Seven Step Process
  • The Importance of Attitude – It Starts With You
  • Maintaining Balance – Personal and Professional Coping Skills
  • Characteristics of a Hardy Personality
  • Workshop/lab – Succeeding at Work and Living to Tell About It

Learning outcomes include:

  2. The ability to deal with complex changes in structure, technology, tasks and people.
  3. The ability to model and encourage risk-taking and innovation.


PART  3 -  COMPANY SUCCESS THROUGH THE TEAM CONCEPT

This is an interactive program focusing on work group performance, problem-solving styles, and team-building processes. Subjects are made practical for use back on the job. Come, participate, and learn team-building skills appropriate for all levels of leadership.

Topics include:

  • Working Together Works – Together Everyone Accomplishes More
  • High Performance Work Groups – Characteristics of a Dream Team
  • Avoiding Groupthink/Achieving Group strength
  • Problem-solving Styles and Work Group Dynamics
  • Workshop/Lab – Tapping the Constructive Power of the Group to Meet Company Needs

  • On-The-Job-Application


Learning outcomes include:

  1. The ability to understand workgroup dynamics.
  2. The ability to use improvement techniques to achieve work group efficiency and effectiveness.
  3. The ability to make timely decisions based on frank & honest discussion, critical thinking skills, and appropriate data.



PART 4 -  FOSTERING A HIGH PERFORMANCE WORK CULTURE

This is a highly interactive program focusing on leadership effectiveness and people-building skills. Although management by objectives (MBO) is important, managing by values (MBV) is essential for today’s successful leader. At the heart of caring leadership are basic honesty, mutual trust, respect for all people, personal courage, and if all else fails, the caring confrontation.

Topics include:

  • Productivity and The Importance of Leadership
  • Leader as Team builder and Developer of People
  • Trust, Respect and The Caring Confrontation
  • Performance Improvement Initiative/ Assignment
